Eminent Knight George Towers, P.Gt.A-de-C
17 February 1932 – 27 July 2015
The Provincial Priory of Northumberland lost a much loved and respected Great Priory Officer, who had dedicated 40 years to the Order, when E Kt George Towers was called to higher service by our Great Captain in July 2015.
Bro George was initiated into Freemasonry in Cowpen Lodge No 4824 in December 1962. He was Master of the Lodge in 1973 and due to his service he was appointed in Provincial Grand Lodge to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 1983. His further commitment was later recognised by Grand Lodge in 1999 when he was appointed to the rank of Past Grand Standard Bearer.
He was exalted into the Royal Arch in Croft Chapter No 3310 in 1974. After acting as First Principal in 1988, the Provincial Grand Chapter appointed him to Past Provincial Grand Sojourner in 1993 before promotion to Past Provincial Grand Registrar in 1999.
He joined our Templar Order in October 1975 when he was installed in Chibburn Preceptory No 232.
He was appointed in Provincial Priory to Past Provincial Second Constable and in 2000 Great Priory appointed him to the rank of Past Great Aide-de-Camp.
In other Orders under Mark Masons’ Hall he joined Blagdon Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 547 in 1975 and, in the same year, became a Founder member of Ridley Lodge of Mark Master Masons No 1439.
He was a stalwart of our Templar Order and of the Provincial Priory and his loss was keenly felt by all the Brother Knights throughout the Province.
