A Double Celebration for Alan Hume

It’s not often that a Brother Knight celebrates two major masonic milestones within a few days of each other, but that is exactly what happened recently with our Past Provincial Prior, RE Kt Alan Hume, K.C.T.

On Friday 28th January, in the regular meeting of Royal Kent Preceptory No 20, Alan was presented with a Certificate and tie to mark forty years of devoted service to the Templar Order and, just ten days later, on 7th February, he received a Certificate to mark his fifty years in Freemasonry at the meeting of Epicure Lodge No 9618.

The former was presented by the Provincial Prior, RE Kt Kevin Stannard, witnessed by a full house of Templar masons including two previous recipients of a fortieth certificate, VE Kt Brian Taylor, P.Gt.Reg, and E Kt Warren Pescod, P.Gt.Chamb. 

Epicure Lodge was honoured by the presence of the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Ian Craigs, who came especially to pay tribute to such a dedicated mason and, as it happened, in the presence of VWBro Stannard in his Craft role as Deputy Provincial Grand Master, and of WBro Brian Taylor, who is also a member of Epicure Lodge.

Alan’s contribution to Freemasonry is incalculable, and he is a member of at least ten other Orders – and holds the equivalent of Grand Rank in most.

In both the Craft and Templar Degrees, the members at the presentations – and indeed throughout the Province – wish Alan good health and a long and happy future association with all his masonic Orders in the years to come.
