Knight Robert Mullen

It is with great sadness that the Provincial Priory reports the passing of Knight Robert Mullen.
Bro Robert Mullen was initiated into Freemasonry in Lodge De Ogle No 636 in February 2003 at the age of 62 and acted as its Worshipful Master in 2008.
Eight years later he was given first appointment in the Provincial Grand Lodge of Northumberland as Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon – the highest attainable first appointment.
He was exalted in Chapter De Percy No 636 in 2004 and was its First Principal in 2013. Only five years later he received his first appointment in Provincial Chapter as Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies, in April 2018.
He was installed a Knight in our Order in Brinkburn Preceptory No 284 in February 2010.
After being made a Knight of Malta in 2011, he only held one office in the Preceptory – that of Almoner from October 2018 – before his service was abruptly cut short by his unexpected death three months later.
It is evident that Robert came late into Freemasonry and was a masonic high-flier whose rapid rise in our Orders was only curtailed by his passing. He very much “lived respected and died regretted”.
