Eminent Knight John Knox, P.Prov.Reg.

24 December 1922 – 22 April 2013

It is with great sadness that the Provincial Priory reports the passing of Eminent Knight John Knox.

Bro John Knox was initiated into Freemasonry in Alnwick Lodge No 1167 in August 1971 and acted as its Master in 1987.
He was exalted in the Royal Arch in Alnwick Chapter No 1167 in 1979 and was its First Principal in 1994.

In Provincial Grand Lodge he was Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacon and in Provincial Grand Chapter he was promoted to Past Provincial Grand Scribe Nehemiah.

He joined the Templar Order in May 1988 when he was installed a Knight in St Aidan Preceptory No 469, taking the Chair of Preceptor ten years later. For his service he was promoted to the rank of Past Provincial Registrar in Provincial Priory.
Very active in other Orders under Mark Masons’ Hall, he was a Founder member of Hotspur Council No 129 in the Order of the Allied Masonic Degrees, and a Grand Officer with the rank of Past Grand Inner Guard.

He devoted forty years of service to the Mark Degree as a member of Hotspur with Coquetdale Mark Lodge No 135 and a Past Provincial Grand Junior Overseer.

Also in the Mariner Degree, his membership of Hotspur Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners over seventeen years led to the award of Royal Ark Mariner Provincial Grand Rank.

His passing was a cause for deep regret within the Provincial Priory of Northumberland and he was greatly missed by all his Brother Knights.
