Eminent Knight Selby Brown,
Past Provincial Second Constable

We regret to report the sad passing, just a couple of days ago, of Eminent Knight Selby Brown at the age of 80 years.
Selby had been initiated into Freemasonry in Farne Lodge No 5228 on 8th December 1983 and took the Master’s Chair twice, in 2001 and 2005.
His first appointment in Provincial Grand Lodge was to Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in 2010, before promotion to Past Provincial Senior Grand Deacon in 2019.
He was exalted into Royal Arch Masonry in Alnwick Royal Arch Chapter No 1167 on 21st November 1985; and in 2001 he was a Founder member of Farne Royal Arch Chapter No 5228, taking the Chair of First Principal for two years from 2015.
In 2020 he received first appointment in Provincial Grand Chapter to the rank of Past Provincial Grand Sojourner. He was installed a Knight Templar in Lindisfarne Preceptory No 226 on 24th April 2002 and took the Chair of Preceptor for two consecutive years in 2008 and 2009. For his service to the Order he was appointed to the rank of Provincial Aide-de-Camp in 2009 before promotion to Provincial Herald in 2013 and further promotion to Past Provincial Second Constable in 2017.
He was also a member of the Mark and Royal Ark Mariner Degrees, having been advanced in Farne Mark Lodge No 1540 in 1984.
He acted as its Worshipful Master in 1997 before being appointed to Provincial Grand Registrar in 2001 and promoted to Past Provincial
Grand Master Overseer in 2021. He was also, for a time, a member of Adoniram Mark Lodge no 1483 from 1998 but elected not to take office, leaving the Lodge after fifteen years of membership.
As a member of Farne Lodge of Royal Ark Mariner, he was elevated in 2000 and was installed as Warden, but left the Order in 2013 before taking the Chair of Worshipful Commander.
We are sorry to lose such a well-known and respected Knight Templar and mason, and we will miss his presence in our meetings in future.
